I have glanced through the manuscript—a biographical sketch of Shri Vasantrao P. Naik by Shri Dinesh Desai. I am glad to say that Shri Desai has focused greater attention on Shri Naik as a man than as Chief Minister of Maharashtra. To my mind Shri Naik's greatness lies in his sensitiveness as a public worker and his services to the people of the State, particularly the under-privileged class including the tillers of the soil. His simplicity is matched only by his earnestness to be of help to the people he works for. Progressive in outlook, Shri Naik has the courage of his convictions in adhering to the accepted social and political ideals and at the same time not to deviate from the practical aspect of things.

All these points, I am happy, Shri Dinesh Desai has brought out well in his book, to the extent that this will enable the people of Maharashtra and others to know their Chief Minister better. I welcome this venture and wish it success.
